Algorithm comparison

A total of 5 microwave radiometer algorithms to calculate the ice concentration and the multi-year ice fraction have been compared. The algorithms are described in the previous sections, and the calculations have been performed in 7 areas, the 4 areas shown in Figure 4 and the 3 areas shown in Figure 2.

The areas are chosen so all combinations of open water (W) multi-year ice (MY) and first-year ice (FY) are present. The area selection is based on knowledge by the author, in which areas the different ice types exist. The method of using real radiometer data from different areas does not guarantee, that only the expected ice types are present in the areas, but it gives the possibility of comparing different algorithms on real radiometer data.
The areas of W, MY and FY are the same as used in the tie-point calculation.
