In the lower 3 SAR frames, open water is seen in the upper left hand side and in the lower right corner. At the western ice edge, new ice is formed in bands. The background in the ice covered part is grey with some bright bands, which indicates, that the background is formed by pancake ice with a significant water content. In the lower part of the ice covered area, some dark features are seen. This is probably new ice, which also can be confirmed by comparing the SSM/I images from February 16 and February 15.
