February 2 1993

The SAR image shows clearly open water in the upper part of the image, while ice is present in the lower. Along the northern and western ice edge, very dark thin lines are created, which is probably due to development of new ice. On the western side of the ice covered part, are some open water areas present. The central part of the ice covered area contains some bright structures. The ice is interpreted to consist of a dense concentrations of pancake ice, only with a small amount of open water between the pancakes. The bright structures are probably created by the small water content.
