The SAR image is seen to be dominated by open water. In the top part of the image, pancake ice with only a few open water regions are present. In all the central part, open water and bands of pancake ice is dominating. In the lower left corner, a bigger area of ice is seen. This area is also assumed to be formed by pancake ice. All of this is in good agreement with the SSM/I image (the upper 3 frames).
