The SAR image shows open water in the upper right and in the lower right of the image. This is in good agreement with the SSM/I image. Along the northern ice edge is new dark ice formed in long bands. In the central part of the SAR image, a grey background with some open water areas is seen. The grey background is probably pancake ice with different concentrations of open water in between. The brighter lines in this part is found to be areas with a lower ice concentration.
