Ice types observed from satellite microwave sensors

In this section, the signature from active and passive microwave sensors of various types of sea ice will be explained. The sensors of primary interest are the passive microwave radiometer on board the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) and the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) on board the ERS-1 satellite.
