February 7 1993 (2)

The upper 3 SAR frames from February 7 shows a very dark area in the upper right corner, which looks like new ice. This appears as open water in the SSM/I image. In the upper part of the SAR image, two different areas looks like open water, although they have a slightly different appearance. A very thin line of new ice is seen in the junction between the two. The lower area could be grease ice. Further down in the image, circular patterns are seen, which is related to ocean currents and convection. The patterns are dark on a grey background, and they are perhaps formed by new ice. The background can consist of pancake ice in different concentrations. In the lower part of the image, a grey homogeneous area is seen. This is probably formed be a dense concentration of pancake ice.
