Weather measurements at Jan Mayen

Weather effects are important for ice formation. Measurements from the island Jan Mayen, which is placed near the Odden area, is used as an indicator for the weather in the Odden area. This will only give an approximately knowledge of the weather conditions at the Odden area. In several occasions it has been observed, that the wind direction measured at Jan Mayen is in bad agreement with the wind direction in the Odden area estimated from satellite images. The measured data have been delivered by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute [NMI, 1993].
The temperature in January and February 1993 is shown in figure gif and gif respectively.
