In the upper part of the image dark areas are classified as new ice. A small area in the upper left corner appears as open water. In all parts of the image dark features are seen, which are expected to be new ice. In the upper part the background is brighter than in the lower part, and the ice cover is assumed to consist of pancake ice with a decreasing water content further down the image.
